La Perouse Street - Griffith
The design brief for this project was to achieve a contemporary home with passive heating and cooling qualities, well connected to the outdoors and views of Canberra city and a home that offered a variety of living and outdoor spaces for their family and visitors to enjoy throughout Canberra’s diverse seasons.
Light and space are the keys themes in the design of the home and are evident upon entry. The spacious entry connects visually to the living deck and pool area offering immediate connection with natural light and the outdoor spaces. A mature tree is accented within the deck and draws the natural environment closer to the home. These connections are continued throughout the home with all spaces enjoying natural light and a variety of courtyard, pool and garden vistas. The living spaces enjoy generous connections to outdoors spaces and add flexibility to the internal spaces.
Key rooms have been placed to maximise natural sunlight and views. The family and dining area enjoys ample sunlight through full height glazing and is protected from harsh western sun by the two storey portion of the building. The swimming pool, located adjacent to the home, offers a passive cooling element in warmer months.
